Help is on the Way
for the Holidays

Beneficiaries for
2002

Pediatric HIV/AIDS Program of Children’s Hospital Oakland. Since 1986, the Pediatric HIV/AIDS program at Children’s Hospital Oakland has provided comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for children with known or suspected HIV infection. Treatment ranges from initial diagnosis through all stages of disease progression, including end-stage disease and terminal care. By participating in the AIDS clinical trials groups through N.I.H., the hospital’s patients are offered the chance to be treated with new HIV drug therapies, vaccines, and medications to help prevent life-threatening infections—treatments not otherwise available to them.

BAY Positives. The mission of Bay Area Young (BAY) Positives is to help young people, age 26 and under, living with HIV/AIDS live longer, happier, healthier, more productive and quality-filled lives. Services provided include a drop-in support group for young people who are newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS; peer counseling and case management; educational opportunities through workshops, trainings and a monthly newsletter to inform members about HIV treatment options, prevention issues relevant to HIV positive people and a host of other topics; a quarterly retreat combining these functions; and street-based outreach services linking young people who are at risk for HIV infection with HIV counseling and testing services. Recently BAY Positives incorporated two job training programs for youth, one for young people under age 17 and one for those 18 to 25.

Lyon-Martin Women’s Health Services. The mission of Lyon-Martin’s is to provide quality, affordable, non-judgmental comprehensive healthcare for women by women. They are committed to serving all women with a focus on lesbians and special outreach to low-income women, women of color, and HIV+ women. They provide primary medical care, psychiatry, support groups, therapy/counseling services, case management, treatment education and advocacy, peer advocacy and medical accompaniment, emergency housing, emergency food and clothing, transportation assistance, acupuncture, massage, legal counseling, and benefits counseling for HIV+ women.
