We are proud to salute two of America's finest
composers this year who both would have
celebrated their 100th birthdays.

JULE STYNE, born Julius Styne, left his native England in 1912 for a new life in America. He went on to become one of America's most prolific and successful composers, composing for both Broadway musicals and Hollywood films as well as many popular hit songs over a very long career and pairing with many renown lyricist along the way including Frank Loesser and Sammy Cahn. Some of the Broadway shows he composed for included High Button Shoes (1947), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949), Two on the Aisle (1951), Peter Pan (1953), Bells Are Ringing (1956), Gypsy (1959), Do Re Mi (1960), Subways Are For Sleeping (1961), Funny Girl (1964), Hallelujah, Baby (1967), Sugar (1972), Lorelei (1974), and The Red Shoes (1993). He won an Academy Award in 1954 for Best Song for "Three Coins in a Fountain. "

HAROLD ARLEN was born Hyman Arluck in February of 1905, the younger of twins. His older brother died seven days after they were born. He is probably best known as the composer of the entire score for The Wizard of Oz but he has written over 400 songs including "It's Only a Paper Moon," "Stormy Weather," "I've Got the World on a String," "Ac-Cent-Tchu_Ate the Positive," "Black Magic," "Blues in the Night," "Come Rain or Come Shine," "My Shining Hour," and "That Old Black Magic."
